Composing With the Tape Recorder

I've been trying out various free software for music
notation and can't find a suitable one for web pages. I
want to put my music here. So far all I've figured out is
to write it in guitar tablature using wordpad and
inserting it into the html as preformated text. Is that
the way its done? I don't know. If anyone has any
