Listen to it over and over.

Write out the form of the song. Most pop tunes are usually divided into Intro, Verse, Chorus, Bridge (or solo), and vamp. This would be written out like:

Intro (8 bars) Verse (16 bars) Chorus (8 bars) Verse2 (16 bars) Double Chorus (32 bars) Bridge (16 bars) Verse3 (16 bars) Chorus Vamp Out

The abbreviated form chart is:

Now learn chord, rhythms, licks, riff, fills

If the song has a recurring riff write it sown, whenever it appears in the song, notate it by writting "lick" or "riff".

Write out the basic chords of verse and chorus.

Now map out rhythms, write down the patterns
